Cochin (Kochi)
Cochin the
commercial and industrial capital of Kerala, has one of the
finest natural harbours in the world. Ancient mariners from
Arabia, China, Holland, Britain and Portugal have all left
their mark on this beautiful island city.
One of the finest natural harbours on the Arabian Sea coast,
Kochi (Cochin), earlier known as Cochin has been a port of
call for foreign traders from early times. Its cosmopolitan
character is reflected in the buildings and structures
representing different regions of the world. A city of
peninsulas and islands, today it is Kerala's commercial hub.
Kerala's prime tourist destination, it spreads across
islands and promontories in a stunning location between the
Arabian Sea and Backwaters. Its main sections: modern
Ernakulam in the east and the old districts of Mattancherry
and Fort Cochin on a peninsula in the west are linked by a
complex system of ferries
Periyar National Park
The Western
Ghats on its east and the Malabar Coast on its west, adorned
with the emerald backwaters and exotic spice plantations,
Kerala is blessed with a riotous variety of flora and fauna.
Topped up with indigenous traditional cultural practices and
art forms, Kerala is increasingly gaining momentum as a

Periyar National Park located along the Periyar River and
Lake in Thekkady is one of the best National Parks in India.
Wildlife at Periyar : Spread over 777 sq. km area of
which the cardamom plantations are also a part, periyar is
home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Elephants,
tigers, leopards, gaur, sambar, Malabar flying squirrel,
mongoose, wild pig, can be located in their natral habitat
here. 260 species of birds including Nilgiri wood pegion,
Blue-winged Parakeet, flycatchers, laughing thrushes are
found.
Alleppey
Alleppey
(Alappuzha) is a District of immense natural beauty in
Kerala. Today, Alappuzha has grown in importance as a
Backwater Tourist Centre, attracting several thousands of
foreign tourists each year.It is also famous for boat races,
houseboat holidays, beaches, marine products and coir
products. It ia also known as the Venice of The East. For a
total Alappuzha experience traverse the canals on small
vallams (Boats) or anchor in the middle of the backwater
lakes on a Kettuvallam (rice boat converted to cozy house
boats) - spend the night under the star lit sky, listening
to the splash of water on to the boat.
The nearest airport is Cochin, which is 95 Kms away.
Alleppey is well connected by rail from all major places in
India. Alleppey is well connected by Road also.
Alleppey Beach : Alappuzha beach is one of the most
popular spots in the district of Alappuzha. . The pier,
which extends into the sea here, is over 137 years old.
There is also an old lighthouse, which is greatly
fascinating to the tourists of Kerala.
Kovalam
Kovalam, meaning
"a groove of coconut trees," is just 10 km from the state
capital Thiruvananthapuram. It is actually a combination of
three small beaches. Among these, the southernmost beach,
named Lighthouse Beach, is the most frequented. Earlier this
beach was an anglers' paradise. This is an ideal place for a
sunbath. Tourists can also experience the typical Kerala
massage a few kilometers away along the beaches. Marine
activities are also possible here.The local fishermen
provide sunrise and sunset cruises in fishing boats. The
Catamaran cruises, on the country raft is very popular here.
One of the most famous and popular of all the beaches in
South India, the Kovalam beach has many beach resorts lined
up to cater to different tourists and their varied demands.
The Kovalam beach is divided into two main beaches besides
the many other private beaches. They are known as Eve's
beach and Lighthouse beach. The Eve's beach is a semi
circular beach and is a secluded spot lined with palm trees.
The Lighthouse beach has a famous lighthouse that has been
fighting the tempests since the British rule.
